Elderly in the schools of indigenous communities

In the indigenous communities of Colombia, many young people find themselves in a situation of academic failure, disconnected from the ancestral knowledge that makes the identity of their people. Linguist and Social Entrepreneur Abadio Green Stocel has invented an educational program where elders intervene in communities and schools to help younger generations understand where they come from and who they are.

Like her mother and grandmother before her, Margarita became "Otsü", the title given to elders who interpret dreams and communicate with spirits. In the Guarija desert in northeastern Colombia, the indigenous Wayuus people have an idyllic image of the elderly. They represent the memory of the group, in a community where oral culture is still very important.

The little "guardian angels" of the elderly

When he was 6 years old, the "little" Albeiro Vargas began helping elderly people of his neighborhood, in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Thirty-three years later, Albeiro created a foundation that gathers everyday 260 abandoned elderly and children from the area, their "guardian angels". A way for young and old people to escape the streets.
